Why I don't like doors that lock automatically

I first posted this yesturday on Facebook and I'm just getting around to post it here. Read away:

Today I was at a birthday party for one of the kids I babysit. It was being held at a building that they were renting a big room in. The only door that we had use of was one that locked behind you automaticaly, from their you went down a set of stairs and through another door. So I stood at the door and let people in as they came. Also if you shut the door just right you could make it not latch all the way and not lock. Near the end of the party one of the familys had to leave early and had just walked out the door to leave and we realized that they hadn't gotten their party favors. So I ran after them, being careful to make the door not latch. As you can probably guess, the door did latch, and therefor, lock. I delivered the favors, they left and I tried to go back in... Of course I couldn't. Oh shoot! I thought. I knew that you couldn't really hear anyone at the door from inside the party room, but I didn't think it would be long before someone came out or did hear my knocking... Time went by and no one could hear me banging on the door, I didn't have my cell phone, keys or coat, all of those were inside! I had no way of letting anyone know I was still out there! And there were enough people at the party that no one noticed I was missing. TWENTY minutes later, finally a dad came out to smoke. I told him, "I'm not normally a fan of smoking, but I am SO glad that you are taking a smoke break!"

After I got back inside and rejoined the party, one of the kids suggested playing hide and seek. I jokingly suggested the spot that no one would find you, outside the door!

BTW- I am very thankful that the weather today was not freezing. It was in the mid 40's I think. As far as winter days to get locked outside on, today was a good one.

I am sure glad that it wasn't freezing! What a way to spend 20 minutes.

About Rally obedience. Actually it is very easy for Inky and Ellie. The regular obedience they do has them well prepared for the vast majority of card options for Rally. The one thing Ellie can't do is to walk backwards. Since Inky is not planning to compete in Rally, she isn't too worried about it. The great thing for Ellie is that she doesn't know what is coming up next, so she really has to focus on Inky, and that is a good thing. She seems to have lost a lot of the focus that she had a year or so ago. It is good to see it coming back. I just hope it continues in the obedience ring when she competes. If not, they still do well. Blessings
